Neurosurgery

Compass Veterinary Neurology & Imaging (CVNI) offers a range of neurosurgical procedures. The neurosurgeons at CVNI treat a variety of conditions including, but not limited to:

  • Intervertebral disk herniations

  • Spinal tumors

  • Brain tumors

  • Atlanto-axial luxation / instability

  • Lumbosacral stenosis and instability

  • Vertebral fractures / luxations

  • Subarachnoid diverticulum

  • Chiari-like malformation

  • Muscle & nerve biopsies

  • Wobbler’s disease (cervical spondylomyelopathy)

In addition, CVNI uses advanced neurosurgical technology to give our patients the best chance at a successful outcome. Fluoroscopy (real time x-ray) is used during procedures involving implant placement for spinal stabilization. Fluoroscopy allows our doctors to precisely place these implants and has been linked to better outcomes in both human and veterinary patients.

Our surgical ultrasonic aspirator aids in the removal of brain and spinal tumors during neuro-oncologic surgeries. This aspirator allows for more compete removal of the tumors with less trauma to healthy brain and spinal cord tissue.

Dr. Archambault and Dr. Harvey possess a combined 19 years in neurosurgical experience. Additionally, Dr. Archambault achieved his ACVIM Neurosurgery Certificate in 2016. Our neurosurgeons attend surgical continuing education courses to provide the newest, cutting-edge procedures for the best outcome for your pet. For these reasons, CVNI has become a trusted choice for all veterinary neurosurgical needs in the mid-Atlantic region.
